Duties Description This position is responsible for overseeing the scheduling and performance of corrective and preventative maintenance, as well as safety-related work orders, while supervising employees who perform regular maintenance and small construction or renovation projects in academic and residential buildings. This position includes ordering materials for plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and other building trades, and may require the procurement of parts and supplies through Jaggaer. Other duties may include, but are not limited to, observing and inspecting work in progress and upon completion to ensure proper use of materials and equipment, quality workmanship, adherence to regulations and codes, and timely completion according to plan. Effective communication with campus stakeholders is essential. The incumbent will assist staff by providing guidance, instruction, and support in resolving work-related issues and performing specific tasks, and will also inspect work performed by outside contractors to ensure compliance with project specifications. This position requires responding to campus emergencies, arranging necessary staff coverage, reviewing completed work for quality and accuracy, and providing effective supervision through accurate time and attendance management, timely coaching and counseling, and performance evaluations. The incumbent will also collaborate with other supervisors to coordinate maintenance activities, schedule work, and ensure the efficient use of staff, materials, and equipment. Using appropriate PPE and selecting and safely using the appropriate tools and equipment needed to complete the assigned tasks as well as attending job related training will be required. Minimum Qualifications -Must be eligible for permanent appointment to this title pursuant civil service law
-Valid driver’s license and the ability to be LENS cleared to operate state vehicles
-A demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with a variety of individuals
Non-competitive:
One (1) year of trade experience subsequent to the completion of an apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience such as that required for a Trades Specialist (Carpenter), Trades Specialist (Electrician), Service & Repair Mechanic (Electronics), Trades Generalist, Grounds Construction Supervisor, Trades Specialist (Locksmith), Trades Specialist (Machinist), Trades Specialist (Mason & Plasterer), Service & Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment), Trades Specialist (Painter), Trades Specialist (Plumber & Steamfitter), Service & Repair Mechanic (HVAC-R), Trades Specialist (Roofing), or Trades Specialist (Welder).
Additional Comments Maintenance & Operations is responsible for processing all work order requests received, and handling them accurately and timely. This position will be directly accountable to the Assistant Director of Facilities, and will supervise and manage a team of skilled and semi-skilled trade persons in the maintenance and improvement of the physical environment at SUNY Plattsburgh. This position requires strong leadership, management, and communication skills, along with attention to detail and effective organizational ability. We are a part of the Administration & Finance division which provides essential services to our campus, local, state, federal and international customers. We are responsible for human, physical, financial and technical resources. As professionals, we navigate systems in a collaborative and sensitive way to assist the University in achieving its educational mission. The work schedule for this position is expected to be Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
