Duties Description Under the direction of the Environmental Stewardship Biologist, or designee, the incumbent will perform a variety of technical assignments to ensure the maintenance, protection, and resilience of ecosystems while protecting the natural environment and supporting the Agency’s broader mission. Duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Hemlock wooly adelgid (HWA) surveys, including:
o Hemlock stand assessments and prioritization for management.
o Surveys for hemlock woolly adelgid presence and survival.
o Management of data and maps.
o Monitoring of hemlock stands post-treatment.
• Participates in various fauna and flora surveys.
• Collects and prepares fauna and flora samples for biological, physiological, and chemical analyses.
• Conducts surveys and compiles, summarizes, prepares, and proofs resulting data.
• Assists with water quality sampling.
• General invasive species management.
• Assists in the delivery of education programs.

Minimum Qualifications No Minimum Qualifications per Civil Service.

Additional Comments Operational Needs:

•Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
•Must be proficient in Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
•Must have the ability to follow directions and communicate in a positive manner.
•Must have a strong interest in, and commitment to environmental stewardship as well as a team-oriented approach to solving environmental challenges.
•Must have the ability to lift heavy loads, walk long distances and work in a variety of weather.

Preferred Qualifications:

•Prior education or experience in environmental management or similar field.
•Experience with GPS/GIS mapping and data processing, preferably using tools such as ArcGIS, ArcGIS online, Survey 123, and FieldMaps
•Experience in backcountry orienteering and Leave No Trace.

The position and duration will be dependent upon funding availability.
