Duties Description You will oversee the daily recycling center operations for the area to which you are assigned. You will train and supervise the Incarcerated Individuals who are under your direction. The areas of training and supervision will include, but are not limited to: material identification, grading, sorting, processing, and unloading trailers. In addition to the training and supervision roles, you will be responsible for: scheduling delivery of recyclables from other facilities, assisting in the formal bidding process, scheduling trucking firms to haul products to market, as well as miscellaneous projects and duties.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).*
Minimum Qualifications for taking the Open Competitive Examination: must meet ALL THREE of the following minimum qualifications:
1. You must have two years of experience in a large scale recycling operation. This experience must include the operation of equipment such as forklifts, large capacity paper shredders, and down stroke balers.
2. You must have two years of supervisory experience.
3. You must be a high school graduate or have a high school equivalency diploma issued by a recognized state educational authority or a USAFI GED high school certificate.
*For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in an NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
