Duties Description Under the supervision of higher-level park manager, the Park Worker 3 performs semiskilled maintenance and repair work in one or a combination of trade areas. Incumbents, in learning and perfecting their skills, may perform journey level activities under supervision or after receiving detailed instruction. Typical assignments include but are not limited to:

• Working with park and regional program staff to plan, conduct, and evaluate park programs and events for schools, community groups, and the public.
• Coordinating and conducting recreational programs and events including creative arts workshops, guided walks, free play, guided story time programs, performances, seasonal festivals, game library open hours, and other park programs.
• Working with the environmental education team to develop and conduct education and stewardship programs about the park’s natural resources, history, and namesake.
• Coordinating the usage of Park House facilities and equipment for regular programs and special events and preparing and maintaining event schedules.
• Assisting in determining program and equipment needs.
• Preparing reports, records, and publicity materials
• Engaging in outreach to schools, community groups, and the public through email, social media, park house exhibit displays, and tabling events.
• Maintaining the park and facilities to ensure a clean and safe environment, which will include light-duty maintenance, sanitizing of facilities, trash removal, and the use of a variety of hand and power-driven mechanical equipment.
• Overseeing Park opening and closing shifts and assisting in supervising seasonal staff, which may include generating and overseeing projects, monitoring time and attendance, evaluating performance, and scheduling.
• Patrolling the park, answering phones and emails, and interacting with patrons to resolve questions, disseminate information, and provide excellent customer service.
• Periodically assisting with programming, maintenance, and operations at other State Park facilities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility;
OR - One year of experience in any of the following fields:
• Law enforcement or security
• Firefighting
• Emergency Medical Services
• Environmental education or stewardship
• Natural resources management (e.g., forest management, wildlife management/preservation)
• Historic preservation or interpretation
• Landscaping or grounds maintenance
OR - One year of military service in any branch of the United States Armed Forces;
OR - Thirty (30) semester credit hours of college-level coursework from an accredited college or university;
OR - Completion of a two-year technical/trades school program;
OR - Two years of experience as a trade assistant working under the direct supervision of a skilled tradesperson.

Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess effective communication skills and have the ability to understand written and/or verbal material and instructions.
• Must be physically capable of lifting and carrying items of varying weights and sizes.
• Weekend, Evening, and holiday shifts may be required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment. If not licensed at the time of appointment, the appointee must obtain a driver’s license without restrictions or conditions within the term of probation
• Must have proficiency in Excel, Word, and Microsoft Outlook.

• May be required to report to other facilities throughout the NYC Region on an as needed basis.


DOWNSTATE ADJUSTMENT: $4,000
