Duties Description Under the supervision of higher-level personnel, the Park Worker 3 may be engaged in the performance or coordination
of, but not limited to, the following tasks and activities as described:
• Support the operations, activities, events, programs, and maintenance at the assigned facility and all other duties assigned.
• Answers patron inquiries concerning park information and resolves patron complaints in the field.
• Prepares a wide assortment of reports, such as vehicle use forms, work orders, fuel reports, fire extinguishers, exit signs, emergency lights, inventory, and correspondence.
• Performing maintenance activities including mowing, refuse removal, cleaning structures, painting, maintenance of equipment, snow and ice removal, operation of power saws and other self-propelled equipment, minor carpentry, masonry, plumbing or electrical repairs, routine, semi-skilled light maintenance, and other duties as assigned.
• Conducts inspections of the park for safety hazards, corrects problems where possible, and makes recommendations to the supervisor for appropriate skilled trades assistance when needed.
• Acts as shift supervisor for assigned area and directs and coordinates subordinate staff (both full-time and seasonal) in the performance of the activities as required, and trains subordinate staff in the proper use of hand tools, vehicles, equipment, and other items necessary.
• Operate light trucks, snowplows, passenger vehicles, tractors, UTVS and other equipment as required,
o use and maintain small lawn/garden equipment and small hand tools, loads, moves, carries, or unloads materials of varying weights and sizes as necessary.
• Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility;
OR - One year of experience in any of the following fields:
• Law enforcement or security
• Firefighting
• Emergency Medical Services
• Environmental education or stewardship
• Natural resources management (e.g., forest management, wildlife management/preservation)
• Historic preservation or interpretation
• Landscaping or grounds maintenance
OR - One year of military service in any branch of the United States Armed Forces;
OR - Thirty (30) semester credit hours of college-level coursework from an accredited* college or university;
OR - Completion of a two-year technical/trades school program;
OR - Two years of experience as a trade assistant working under the direct supervision of a skilled tradesperson
*Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. Reassignment Qualifications:
Current NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Employees only, with at least one year of permanent or contingent-permanent qualifying service as a Park Worker 3.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment
• Must operate a chainsaw, maintain CPR/FA/AED certification, OR will need to complete as soon as the appropriate training is offered in the Region as a term and condition of employment.
• Ability to do simple math such as add, subtract, multiply, divide, read, comprehend written and/or verbal material, and instructions.
• Must have the ability to follow directions and communicate with staff, public, and respond to patrons' concerns or complaints in an effective and positive manner.
• This position will require weekends, holidays, various shifts, and special events to provide effective operational coverage.
