Duties Description Mechanical Repair has high work volume in its role providing services to the university physical plant. The SG9 position relieves three grade 12 mechanics in Mechanical Repair Department of journeyman level work so their efforts can be focused on trouble shooting and performing the more complex inhouse repairs and alterations. The SG9 position also provides support for both emergency and scheduled events.

Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership (NYS CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. *Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. It does not include 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, as required for the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship. Candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators. Valid New York State driver's license required.

This position may be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment.

OPERATING NEEDS:

Ability to take direction and operate within a team framework and or work independently to assist and perform semiskilled routine tasks in the maintenance and repair of a variety of mechanical and electromechanical systems. Ability to perform heavy lifting, basic metal fabrication; use of oxyacetylene torch, cutting and welding. Ability to perform mechanical operations such as hydraulic hose repair and fluid level checking, lubricating, maintaining and repairing various motorized equipment. Being proficient with hand tools. Ability to comprehend and execute written and verbal directions. Ability to work at a maximum height of 35 feet with the use of aerial lifts setting up bleachers and installing banners. Willingness to be trained in areas of health and safety and to learn and improve upon work related skills. Valid NYS Driver's license required. Candidates are expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators. Ability to work at heights (with proper training). Ability to work alone as well as in a team environment. Must be able to fill out timecard and record time in AIM system.
