Duties Description The New York State Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) provides operational support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year, supporting more than 4,900 applications for 53 New York State Agencies.
Under the direction of the Manager Information Technology Services 2 (Technical), SG-27 within the Enterprise Network Services bureau and Projects and Operations section of Chief Technology Office, the Information Technology Specialist 4, SG-25 will support all remotes sites and deliver networking solutions for any state agencies supported by OITS and their ability to access mission critical applications and services in the State data centers that are essential for various NYS agencies and public safety.
Specific duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Install, relocate and remove equipment. This includes workstations (PCs), printers, servers, VOIP phones, WAPS, and data communications equipment for supported agencies.
• Participate in the planning and execution of all phases of projects including request analysis, site surveys, site preparation, cable troubleshooting and installation, asset management, inventory control, and network assistance.
• Provide detailed site surveys and onsite support for requests from all ITS-supported agencies. Analyze requests and provide Rough Order Magnitude (ROM) estimates to the agencies.
• Submit internal ITS requests and monitor them from start to finish. These requests can be for enterprise network equipment, circuits, and cabling.
• Act as the ITS liaison to the requesting DCT State agency reps. In most cases this is the only face-to-face interaction the agency has with ITS.
• Support the NYS Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
• Supervise subordinate staff in all aspects of their work.
• Perform the full range of supervisory responsibilities.
• Provide 24x7x365 on-call network support, on a rotating basis, for troubleshooting and support for any emergency statewide.
This position requires travel to various sites 3-5 days per week to perform required site consultation work in support of client networking activities.
Minimum Qualifications Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 3 (Programming) or Information Technology Specialist 3 OR in a position at the SG23 or higher deemed administrative under Section 52.6 of Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in advancement of more than two salary grades or one M-grade.

Additional Comments ITS will not offer permanent employment to any candidate unless the candidate provides documentation that they are authorized to accept work in the United States on a permanent basis. If eligible, positions located in New York City will receive an additional $3,400 downstate adjustment location pay with regular annual salary. Positions located in the Mid-Hudson will receive an additional $1,650 adjustment location pay.
