Duties Description Summary:
The Maintenance Supervisor will serve as a working supervisor engaged in planning and managing a small crew of electricians and assist in daily duties to further support any campus electrical needs, including the campus’s fire alarm system and other health and safety related electrical systems. The hours for this position are 6:00am-2:30pm Monday through Friday with the pass days of Saturday and Sunday.

This role is an active, field-based leadership position rather than an administrative office role. As a crew leader, the successful candidate will participate in daily operations while providing high-level oversight for complex projects and issues from inception to completion. Furthermore, the incumbent will serve as the primary electrical representative for SUNY Cortland, ensuring technical excellence and institutional compliance.

Major Responsibilities:
Operations and Project Management
• Oversee scheduling, assigning and coordinating the work of maintenance personnel in the installation, operation, repair, service, and maintenance of campus facilities, systems and equipment to include high voltage transmission and distribution systems, relays, motors, controllers, structural wiring systems, fire alarms, and fixtures of all types; ensure completed work is in compliance with established standards or required specifications.
• Review building plans, blue prints, and building codes and specifications to determine work details and procedures.
• Manage campus maintenance coordination, project cost estimation, and the strategic acquisition of capital equipment and safety supplies.
• Establish and maintain a schedule of preventive maintenance.
• Review and evaluate existing modes of maintenance operations and recommend methods for increased efficiency and cost reduction.

Financial and Resource Management
• Analyze budgetary needs, develop budget proposals and reconcile project, operational and capital equipment budgets.
• Authorize the requisition of materials, tools, and equipment.
• Analyze and maintain supplies and equipment inventories.
• Monitor contract personnel, ensuring performance standards, and authorizing payments.

Leadership and Development
• Work closely with the Plant Superintendent C to provide leadership and support in the planning for and managing of the operation, maintenance and repair of campus facilities, systems and equipment.
• Manage various personnel actions to include, but not limited to, preparing hiring recommendations, recommendations for promotions and/or transfers, approving vacation schedules, preparing and communicating performance reviews and recommend, participate in and/or carry out disciplinary actions and dismissals.
• Review time records and approve and submit time report forms in accordance with established campus policies and procedures.
• Oversee and ensure proper training and certification of maintenance personnel; provide training and promote good safety procedures and practices among subordinates.

Technical Execution
• Oversee or perform advanced level tasks: Repairs and renovations of campus buildings, systems, and equipment to include the maintenance and repair of high voltage transmission and distribution systems, relays, motors, controllers, installation of structural wiring systems, maintenance and installation of fire alarms, and installation and repair of fixtures.
• Assess structures to determine time, material, and equipment needs.

Compliance and Safety
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and procedures pertaining to the facilities operation and campus environmental impact.
• Maintain appropriate records and complete all reporting requirements.
• Ensure personnel follow safety practices.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in planning and managing the maintenance, repair, and installation needs for a large facility.
• Experience in preparing cost and material estimates.
• Experience, as a licensed electrician.
• Previous experience working in a college or university setting are preferred.
• Possession of a valid New York State drivers license

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer usingMicrosoft Office software applications.
• Ability to lift and carry 80 pounds.
• Demonstrated ability to use web based applications used to process work orders, prepare budgets, and other reporting requirements.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications One year of experience as a skilled journey level electrician subsequent to the completion of apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience such as that required for a Trades Specialist (Electrician).
