Duties Description The New York State Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) provides operational support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year, supporting more than 4,900 applications for 53 New York State Agencies.
Under the direction of the Director of Information Technology Services 3, M6, within the Chief Technology Office, Data Center Services, the Assistant Director Information Technology 1, M4, will oversee the DCH UNIX section, which is responsible for the development, management, and support of Data Center UNIX servers.?
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
? Develop, implement, and maintain operating and administrative policies and procedures.
? Manage and monitor priorities, schedules, assignments, workloads, and staffing levels to ensure peak operating efficiency.
? Maintain an open dialog with customer agencies to ensure NYS agencies’ needs are met and to discuss mutual areas for improving services.
. Manage vendor and on-premises cloud environments in support of customer agency projects and deployments.
? Participate in negotiating and implementing Service Level Agreements between ITS's State Data Center and customer agencies.
? Work in conjunction with Data Center Facilities to plan for and maintain space, racks, cabling, power etc. for UNIX servers at NYS Data Centers.
? Manage the resolution of incidents and recurring problems which may be affecting server functionality.
? Participate in designing and developing Requests for Proposals; evaluating and rating bidders; and awarding and negotiating hardware, software and maintenance service vendor contracts.
? Serve as both a lead and participant in project teams for developing, maintaining, upgrading, and using products and services provided by the DCH UNIX section; oversees acceptance testing for new and/or modifications to current hardware and software.
? Work with the Director of Information Technology Services 3 and ITS's Finance Office in developing and maintaining DCH UNIX’s annual personal and non-personal services budget and spending plan.
? Oversee recruitment activities.
? Develop project plans specifying scope, goals, costs, benefits, and timelines. Perform analysis of the benefits, advantages/disadvantages, and technical feasibility of implementing project changes.
? Manage and oversee the use of detailed technical procedures and documentation by the DCH UNIX staff to support products and services in the Production, Test, and Disaster Recovery environments.
? Maintain administrative responsibilities including budget requests, Requests to Fill, and HBITS procurements.
? Perform the full range of supervisory responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
Promotion: One year of permanent competitive service as a Manager Information Technology Services 1, Grade 27; Manager Information Technology Services 1 (Technical), Grade 27; Manager Information Technology Services 1 (Data Communications), Grade 27; Manager Information Technology Services 1 (Database), Grade 27; Manager Information Technology Services 1 (Systems Programming), Grade 27; Manager Information Technology Services 1 (Operations), Grade 27; Manager Information Technology Specialist 2, M-3; or Manager Information Technology Services 2 (Technical), M-3, OR in a position at M-3 or higher deemed administrative under Section 52.6 of Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in advancement of more than one M-grade.

Additional Comments ITS will not offer permanent employment to any candidate unless the candidate provides documentation that they are authorized to accept work in the United States on a permanent basis. If eligible, positions located in New York City will receive an additional $3,400 downstate adjustment location pay with regular annual salary. Positions located in the Mid-Hudson will receive an additional $1,650 adjustment location pay.
