Duties Description Facility Operations Assistants perform a variety of routine unskilled and semiskilled manual tasks related to the operation and maintenance of State owned buildings and facilities, the surrounding grounds, and the vehicles and equipment used in maintaining these sites.
Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor, and able to understand and carry out written or oral instructions. Candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators. Valid NYS Drivers license required.
OPERATING NEEDS:
Valid New York State Driver's License is required. Ability to perform manual labor. Ability to work the full summer schedule. Ability to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions.
FIRE SAFETY: Ability to assist in the inspection and testing of fire and life safety systems and fire evacuation drills; Ability to perform semi-skilled tasks in the inspection and testing of the University's Fire Hydrants, and testing the University's Eyewash, Shower and Drench Hose Stations; Ability to assist in the inspection and testing of Hydrants, Eye Wash, Emergency Shower & Drench Hoses as well as Elights and Exit Signs; ability to spend entire work shift navigating the campus, climbing ladders, working at heights up to 20 feet, and lifting / carrying up to 50 pounds; ability to navigate MS Office Suite, Apple products and apps to enter basic data into the University's fire safety resources system; ability to work alone as well as in a team environment; Must be able to properly record time using AiM and record all work using proper ITM software.
HVAC: Ability to lift 80 pounds, work outside, work in tight confined spaces, ability to follow all safety precautions and wear personal protective equipment; Ability to perform cleaning duties of mechanical & heating equipment as well as work and clean in machine rooms; Ability to carry, climb and work on a 8 ft step ladder; Possess an understanding of basic electrical and mechanical equipment such as heating, cooling, refrigeration, and ventilation systems.
EMPIRE COMMONS: Ability to perform unskilled labor activities to assist in plumbing, electrical, and carpentry jobs. Ability to perform unskilled labor activities to assist in the repair of door locks, set up for door installations. Ability to climb ladders. Ability to work in areas of heat and cold, inside and out..
