Salary RangeFrom $96336 to $121413 Annually
Duties Description 1. Provide general legal advice and assistance to Department personnel by researching, analyzing, and interpreting legal issues, statutes, regulations, case law, opinions, briefs, and other related material.
2. Independently plan, organize, and resolve day-to-day agency legal problems, cases and legislative proposals. Participate in conferences and meetings.
3. Negotiate, prepare, and review various legal documents, including contracts, agreements, permits, and leases. Review and analyze documents for legal sufficiency
4. Collaborate with the Office of the Attorney General on litigation matters. This may entail reviewing, compiling documentation, and providing summaries and recommendations on matters of liability, settlement, and appeal.
5. Research and provide guidance regarding environmental issues related to subject areas such as Section 404 of Clean Water Act, the New York State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Clean Air Act, State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES), as well as and other federal and state permitting requirements.
6. Represent and support the Department in the resolution of State and Federal employment-related matters.
7. Assistant in the review, analysis, tracking, and drafting of legislation and regulations.
8. Review and evaluate small claims for alleged property damage from road defects.
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Minimum Qualifications Candidates must have been admitted to the New York State Bar and must have had two years of experience in the practice of law subsequent to admission to the Bar.

The salary range listed reflects the full range for this graded position. For new State employees appointed into graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
