Duties Description The incumbent must have working knowledge of the operation of a variety of self-propelled heavy equipment such as cars, trucks, construction equipment and riding mowers; may operate non-self-propelled machines; basic knowledge of the Vehicle and Traffic Law as it applies to the safe and legal operation of assigned equipment; basic knowledge of the routine repair and maintenance work needed for equipment; ability to use and operate a variety of hand and power tools; ability to operate assigned machine in a safe and effective manner; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions; ability to perform routine repairs and maintenance on equipment; ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor based on priorities set by others and the abilities of individual crew members; orally instruct crew members in the activities and tasks to be performed and answer questions concerning work procedures; provide and explain simple written guidelines for work if they are available; personally observe work in progress and that which is completed to ensure adherence to instructions, guidelines, and schedules; keep written records of work performed and materials and labor used.
Minimum Qualifications Two years of full-time, verifiable experience in custodial, grounds, or maintenance operation or assisting in a journey-level trade. When required to operate motor vehicles, incumbents must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
