Position Information:
Are you interested in gaining experience in human resources? Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to help plan for the biggest event of the summer? The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets is seeking an Office Assistant 1 to work in the Human Resources Office at the Great New York State Fair! As an Office Assistant, you will be responsible for managing a variety of essential administrative tasks, including:
• Answering incoming calls and responding to general inquiries.
• Scheduling onboarding and processing appointments at an offsite location.
• Assisting with Applicant Tracking System (ATS) password resets and basic access questions.
• Supporting the preparation, distribution, and updating of payroll spreadsheets.
• Facilitating hiring steps within the ATS program.
• Digitizing all post-Fair paper documents from 2023-2025.
• Collecting and tracking required forms.
This is a temporary position located at the New York State Fairgrounds at 581 State Fair Boulevard, Syracuse, NY. We provide a professional and comfortable working environment with ample free parking. The position offers 20 - 37.5 hours per week with a pay rate of $17.35 per hour. This position has an end date of September 2026.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: There are no minimum education or experience requirements for this title.
Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have:
• Six months of clerical experience.
• Previous experience in Human Resources or similar occupation.
• Proficient with computers and advanced understanding of Microsoft Office Applications: Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Experience maintaining employee confidentiality.
• Ability to work under pressure with strict deadlines.
• Previous experience using Applicant Tracking Systems.
Some positions may require additional credentials or a background check to verify your identity.
