Duties Description Under the direction of the Park Manager overseeing maintenance and operations at Olana State Historic Site, the employee will perform varied maintenance and operations duties at both the site's mansion and maintenance center.

The duties of this position will include but are not limited to:

• Routine maintenance on a variety of power-driven mechanical equipment.
• Buildings, grounds and tree maintenance, including evaluation, pruning, felling and removal of trees using a chain saw, bucket truck, and chipper.
• Semi-skilled maintenance and repairs in a variety of trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electric, painting, and masonry.
• Recordkeeping of daily maintenance, purchasing, and related matters, as well as training, assigning, and supervising subordinate staff.
• Assistance in emergency situations.
• Assistance with snow removal and in building and repairing roads, paths, benches, trails and park equipment.
• Occasional assistance with maintenance and operations at other State Park facilities as needed.
• Additional duties related to routine maintenance of water treatment systems.

Minimum Qualifications Reassignment Qualifications:

Applicants must currently be in a Park Worker 3 position with OPRHP.

Non-Competitive Qualifications:

One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility;

OR - One year of experience in any of the following fields:
• Law enforcement or security
• Firefighting
• Emergency Medical Services
• Environmental education or stewardship
• Natural resources management (e.g., forest management, wildlife management/preservation)
• Historic preservation or interpretation
• Landscaping or grounds maintenance

OR - One year of military service in any branch of the United States Armed Forces;

OR - Thirty (30) semester credit hours of college-level coursework from an accredited college or university;

OR - Completion of a two-year technical/trades school program;

OR - Two years of experience as a trade assistant working under the direct supervision of a skilled tradesperson.

Additional Comments Operational Needs:

• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must have the ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor tasks.
• Must be able to communicate effectively, with other staff, park patrons, outside businesses, agencies, and Friends groups.
• Must have the ability to read and comprehend written material.
• Must have the ability to supervise others.
• Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays, based on operational needs and emergencies. Must be able to work at both reporting locations of the Olana State Historic Site as work alternates between facilities based on operational needs as well.
• Experience working with historic structures and landscapes is preferred but not required.
