Duties Description The Regional Stewardship Technician will work closely with the OPRHP Regional Biologist, Stewardship Specialist, and Invasive Species Unit staff to meet regional and statewide stewardship goals. The work of the Stewardship Technician will focus largely on supporting projects that will encompass a broad range of environmental and conservation objectives. Job duties will primarily involve field work with the management, surveying and monitoring of invasive species (both terrestrial and aquatic), but may also include site restoration and monitoring, database management, project planning, Wildlife Management, education/outreach, as well as other stewardship duties to be determined at the discretion of regional staff.
This position is based out of Sackets Harbor Battlefield Historic Site, and travel will be required within the Thousand Islands region of OPRHP. A vehicle will be provided for any travel within parks. No overnights are expected.
Duties & Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
• Remove, survey, and/or monitor invasive species (terrestrial and aquatic plants, forest pest and pathogens).
• Provide guidance and support to field staff and volunteers.
• Collect and manage field data using applications and standardized methods (Survey123, iMap, Field Maps, etc.).
• Support regional Stewardship staff in planning projects to meet regional goals.
• Maintain up-to-date project information in various statewide databases (ArcGIS, iMap, DESP).
• Maintain field equipment and supplies.
• Respond promptly to statewide Early Detection and Rapid Response (EDRR) needs.
• Perform native plantings and other restoration duties.
• Utilize working knowledge of GPS/GIS and ecological monitoring methods.
• Assist with stewardship projects that help reach regional and statewide goals.
• This position involves excellent organizational skills in a field setting.
• The successful candidate will perform physical work in a variety of weather conditions as well as employ a team-oriented approach to solving environmental challenges.

Additional Comments Operational Needs:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be available to work occasional weekends.
• Must be able perform physical labor in all weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Strong interest in and commitment to environmental stewardship is preferred but not required.
• One year or more experience with invasive species identification and control methods is preferred but not required.
• Backcountry orienteering and Leave No Trace experience is preferred but not required.
• A degree or experience in forestry, environmental studies, ecology, natural resources management, or a relevant discipline, such as aquatic ecology, conservation biology, etc. is preferred but not required.
