Duties Description The incumbent manages the statewide investigative caseload, including investigation of allegations of professional misconduct and prosecution of physicians who are suspected of misconduct; represents the program in public appearances including presentations to medical and specialty societies, bar associations, medical schools and health-related organizations; oversees the creation and implementation of programmatic policies and procedures and monitors compliance; collaborates with other stakeholders and health care regulators in the execution of investigation management and coordination of regulatory information; and is also responsible for referrals to the Division of Legal Affairs (DLA) for prosecution, consults on negotiated settlements with DLA, and approves orders of the Board.
Minimum Qualifications Permanent Transfer Candidates: Current NYS Department of Health employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent service in a title SG63 or higher and eligible to transfer under Section 52.6 of the NYS Civil Service Law.
Non-Competitive Candidates via NY HELPS: Eleven years of experience in a health care or human services program of which two years must have been at the managerial level of health care provider or practitioner surveillance activities.
Substitution: Associates degree may substitute for two years of specialized experience; bachelor's degree may substitute for four years of specialized experience; master's degree may substitute for five years of specialized experience; J.D. may substitute for six years of specialized experience; Ph.D. may substitute for seven years of specialized experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience providing oversight of a statewide investigative program.
Additional Comments This position is part of the NYS HELPS program. No examination is required.
This position may require travel throughout New York State including overnights to areas not served by public transportation.
