The Department of Financial Services is seeking candidates for the position of Senior Assistant Deputy Superintendent in the Consumer Examinations Unit. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Assists the Deputy Superintendent of the Consumer Examinations Unit (CEU) in supervising the day-to-day activities of the unit in the performance of its various functions;
• Acts as CEU’s Chief of Staff working closely with the Deputy and the management team to accomplish strategic goals while managing and coordinating administrative functions of the unit;
• Supervises CEU’s Administrative team;
• Partners with the Deputy to assist with hiring and staffing strategies for CEU;
• Manages hiring of staff including reviewing resumes and participating in interviews as needed;
• Acts as CEU’s project manager directing process improvement projects;
• Works with Division management and staff to ensure internal policies are implemented timely and consistently, and ensures that unit staff are provided with appropriate training and resources;
• Leads the development and updating of policies and procedures relating to the activities and operations of CEU;
• Acts as a liaison for a variety of support initiatives and workgroups;
• Assists with special agency-wide initiatives, including as proposed by senior leadership and Superintendent;
• Travel may be required up to 25%; and
• Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Preferred Qualifications
• At least 13 years of relevant work experience, of which four years of experience must have been at a managerial level.
o Substitutions: Associate degree may substitute for two years of specialized experience; bachelor's degree may substitute for four years of specialized experience; master's degree may substitute for five years of specialized experience; J.D. may substitute for six years of specialized experience; Ph.D. may substitute for seven years of specialized experience.
• Strong experience with all aspects of the Consumer Examinations Unit.
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills; ability to provide feedback diplomatically.
• Strong project management experience.
• Ability to think strategically while executing day-to-day priorities.
Appointment Method:
This is an appointment to a position in the exempt jurisdictional class. As such, the incumbent of this position would serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

Salary: $156,757 - $197,170 (salary commensurate with experience)
Positions located within the New York City metropolitan area, as well as Suffolk, Nassau, Rockland, and Westchester Counties, are also eligible to receive an additional $4,000 annual downstate adjustment.
Appointment Status: This is an appointment to a position in the exempt jurisdictional class.
Appointment to this position is pending Governor Appointment’s Office and Division of Budget approval.
