Duties Description Minimum Qualifications for Non-Competitive Appointment: Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional research experience** in criminal justice.

**Substitutions: master's degree may substitute for one year of specialized experience; J.D. may substitute for two years of specialized experience; Ph.D. may substitute for three years of specialized experience.

Minimum Qualifications This Research Scientist 1 position is part of the Staffing Analysis unit within the Division of Program Planning, Research and Evaluation. The individual in this position will assist with the development of data structures and associated reports related to various aspects of Departmental staffing, including analysis related to recruitment and retention. Under the direction of a Research Scientist 2, the incumbent will conduct correctional staffing research and analyses. The incumbent will analyze existing DOCCS data with advanced statistical techniques using statistical software programs such as SPSS and STATA. The individual in this position will present findings in tabular and graphical formats using Excel and will present data in dashboards using Tableau. In addition, the RS1 will prepare statistical reports for various audiences, including executive staff. Their responsibilities may include working with outside analysts studying staffing and with Department staff in other units to respond to their data and research needs.

Preferred qualifications include professional experience designing and conducting social science or human resources research, proficiency using SPSS or Stata for advanced data analysis, and proficiency with Tableau or other data visualization software. Candidates with demonstrated experience working with sensitive and confidential data are preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required since this position requires collaboration within the unit and staff outside the office.

Additional Comments Telecommuting up to two days a week may be possible after six months of successful employment.
