Duties Description Duties include:
-Daily operation and maintenance of infrastructure in all Region 4 campgrounds
-Plumbing, electrical, and carpentry diagnostics and repair
-Maintaining equipment and supply inventory
-Operating a variety of self-propelled heavy equipment
-Manual labor such as shoveling, raking, picking up trash, etc.
The ideal candidate will be familiar with repair and maintenance of:
-Potable water systems both inside buildings/structures and underground facilities. This includes well systems (pumps, filtering, chlorination, piping, distribution, etc.).
- Sewer and waste systems , both inside buildings/structures and underground facilities. This includes traditional septic systems (tank and leach field).
-Propane systems, both inside buildings/structures and underground facilities. This includes gas services, propane tanks, distribution piping, and end-use appliances (e.g., Water heaters, stoves, and furnaces).
Candidate must:
-Maintain a valid motor vehicle license at all times.
-Be willing to respond to emergencies, day or night.
Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be at least 16 years of age. Preference may be given to candidates 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license
Preferred qualifications:
-Experience with NYSDEC facility infrastructure
-Knowledge of NYSDEC campground rules and regulations
-Knowledge of operation and maintenance of chlorinated water system
-CDL class B
Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 11/30/2026, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Transportation needs of this position require use of a state vehicle and adhering to the Department’s Vehicle Policy. You must have and maintain a valid driver’s license for this position.
Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be available for emergency response.
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
