Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trades worker or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course. Must possess and maintain a valid NYS Class A driver's license with trailer and air brake endorsement or must obtain within 6 months of appointment. Will be required to complete training and be certified to safely operate a chainsaw for the Department.

Duties Description Will be responsible for maintaining sewer systems for DEC campgrounds, state offices and various remote facilities and locations. Must be able to operate a septic pumping truck and all attachments. Must be able to determine from blueprints the locations of underground septic tanks. Will be responsible to maintain written logs and complete all necessary paperwork on time. Will also be tasked with assisting in all construction and maintenance projects. May be required to travel to assist another DEC working circle. Will be required to work from ladders, scaffolding and lifting equipment. Will be required to assist in removal of hazardous trees. Must be capable of operating heavy equipment such as skid steers, bulldozers, loaders, tractors and backhoes. Must be able to traverse off road trails and terrain. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be willing to respond to off hours emergencies.

Additional Comments Will be required to work with raw sewage. Will be required to communicate with DEC staff and the public in a polite professional manner. Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and work in remote areas and adverse weather conditions. Travel and overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after- hour’s emergencies. Must have a valid Class A CDL within 6 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. It is expected that this position will continue beyond March 31, 2018 pending approval of funding.
