Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor as well as understand and carry out written or oral instructions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Special consideration will be given to applicants who have experience working with deaf students and/or the ability to communicate through ASL/Sign Language.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s School for the Deaf is seeking to fill a part-time Cleaner position. Major duties of this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Wash floors, corridors, stairwells, walls, partitions, and windows from the inside and outside;
• Clean all areas of lavatories and locker rooms, such as sinks, urinals, toilets, showers, and drains;
• Move furniture and equipment in connection with cleaning activities, and set up for meetings or special events;
• Empty trash, recyclables, and waste, in accordance with cleaning schedule;
• Remove snow and salt walkways, clean sidewalks, yards, drives, and mow lawns;
• Strip and wax floors;
• Vacuum and shampoo carpets; and
• Dust assigned areas.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. Fees associated with this process are at the applicant’s expense. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. This will be a permanent, 12-month position.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $17,643 ($35,286 pro-rated to 50%) with annual performance advances.
