Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be:
• Reachable on the current Civil Service Safety & Security Officer 2 List; or.
• Eligible for transfer; or
• Currently in title.
• Candidates must possess or obtain a valid class D Motor Vehicle Operator’s license, be at least 18 years of age, and be physically able, as determined by the Employee Health Service Section of the Department of Civil Service, to perform the activities and tasks of this class.

Duties Description PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is responsible for providing direction and guidance to Safety & Security Officer 1’s and Safety & Security Officer Trainees, including training in proper procedures, scheduling of duty assignments and directly supervising and instructing in the handling of major incidents. In addition, this position is a working supervisor responsible for all the activities of the Safety and Security position such as:
• Security patrols, on foot or by vehicle, in order to detect evidence of irregularities and deter criminal activity.
• Operate emergency vehicles.
• Inspect buildings to insure that all areas are appropriately locked, secured and free of hazardous conditions.
• Maintain communication by radio, P.A., or telephone for routine and emergency needs.
• Questions suspicious persons
• May direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
• May operate security cameras, computers, and related electronic security equipment.
• Enforces state, municipal and institution laws, rules and regulations.
• Search for and eliminate contraband.
• May occasionally arrest suspects and violators in order to protect persons and property.
• May testify in court.
• May need to conduct searches to locate missing individuals.
• Responds to, investigates and prepares detailed written reports at the scenes of fires, accidents, and other incidents.
• Summons medical assistance and applies first aid as the situation indicates.
• Conducts quarterly reviews of community sites as well as campus locations.
• Instruct employees and individuals about emergency fire and safety practices and procedures.
