Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trade worker or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course. Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license is preferred, but not required, for these positions.

Duties Description The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is recruiting to fill three Maintenance Assistant positions. These are temporary/hourly positions in the Bureau of Environmental Design and Improvement located at Rochester Psychiatric Center in Rochester. Specific duties to be performed may include, but are not limited to the following:

Perform ongoing maintenance, small repair and environmental improvement projects.

Perform semi-skilled carpentry duties, including handrail modifications, door hinge and hardware replacement, and maintenance of walls, ceilings, cabinets, doors, windows, flooring and other identified surface modifications.

Conduct skilled surface preparation and application of primer and finish coats of paint in areas designated in the scope of work.

Perform semi-skilled plumbing and bathroom work, including fixture and hardware replacement.

Possess a working knowledge of maintenance and repair methods, materials and tools.

Perform manual tasks such as lifting and placing of equipment and tools.

Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

Provide support as needed for supervisors and co-workers on assignments.

Perform other project duties, as assigned.

Additional Comments These positions will be part of the Joint Commission Special Project team, which will assist facilities with meeting ligature risk remediation requirements and preparing for upcoming Joint Commission surveys. Incumbents will be dedicated to OMH’s anti-ligature mitigation initiative, assisting facilities to prepare for upcoming 2019-20 accreditation surveys, and addressing issues that are identified in the Facility Ligature Plan of Correction.

The estimated duration of this assignment is 12 months. Upon completion of the assignment, these positions will be terminated. Candidates are not eligible for reimbursement of travel costs.
