Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree and two years of professional research experience in the appropriate field, or a Master’s Degree in the
appropriate field and one year of professional research experience in that field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
• Experience in a rodent laboratory
• Experience with rodent breeding schemes with at least 1 year of experience (Masters' Degree) or 2 years of experience (Bachelors' Degree)
• AALAS certification
• Ability to provide other minor technical support (e.g. restraining animals, collecting blood, performing injections, and
clinical treatments) as directed.
• Bilingual (English, Mandarin) may be useful.

Duties Description This position is for a Laboratory Animal Husbandry Technician/Rodent Breeding Specialist

Knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures for animal facilities, and the basic requirements for maintaining laboratory
animals
• Perform animal husbandry and animal care support services, and daily observations of each animal, including completion
of room and census logs.
• Performing cage changes, cleaning of cages and racks, feeds, and monitoring of animals in accordance with The Guide
for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (i.e. providing feed, water, clean cages). Provide environmental enrichment
appropriate to the species housed.
• After training, operate rack washers, bottle washers, and autoclave.
• Adhere to proper waste management protocols.
• Perform proper disinfection and sanitation of animal facilities.
• Receive, examine and properly house incoming animal shipments.
• Utilize database for animal recordkeeping, including but not limited to, animal housing and study support.
• Manage transgenic breeding colonies; including, but not limited to, weaning, identification (tag, tattoo, ear punching) and
tail tipping for genotyping, set-up mating’s, timed mating’s and checking for copulatory plugs, monitoring breeding
performance.
• Communicate with investigators as needed to ensure the breeding colonies are producing appropriately to include animal
numbers, breeders producing adequate litters, etc.
• Troubleshoot strains with breeding difficulties.
• Assist with health monitoring sample collection.
• Perform some facilities duties including receiving, stocking and maintenance of all supply inventories.
Required Skills:
• Ability to follow and accurately execute existing standard operating procedures
• Able to work both independently and in a team environment.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Able to use basic computer programs and perform data entry using Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
• Ability to interpret and effectively execute upon a variety of instructions provided in written, oral, diagram or schedule
formats.
• Ability to quickly adapt to a rapidly changing environment and demands.
• Ability to perform critical thinking and adjust in potential emergency drills or situations.
Physical Requirements:
• The ability to stand for long periods of time.
• Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• The ability to perform moderate manual labor.
• Direct exposure to animals and potential allergens.
• Direct exposure to chemicals including disinfectants and detergents.
• Work may involve the use of potentially hazardous material, including biological and chemical materials, or may be
located in areas where such materials are used and the use of personal protective equipment and adherence to strict
safety protocols will be required
