Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field (or the ability to obtain Bachelor's Degree within one (1) year of appointment);
• Knowledge of management policies, practices and planning;
• At least eight (8) years of supervisory experience working in a college or other community police organization;
• New York State Division of Criminal Justice Certified Police Officer;
• Knowledge of the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Accreditation Standards and processes;
• AED/CPR certification or ability to be certified;
• Excellent interpersonal skills and strong organizational skills;
• Proficiency in oral and written communication;
• Comprehensive knowledge of emergency management and incident command;
• Ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body;
• Valid NYS driver's license

Duties Description The Chief of University Police and Director of Emergency Management is a full time, 12 month position that reports directly to the Vice President for Student Development and serves as a member of the Student Development Leadership Team. The University Police Department is a sworn law enforcement agency and all members are armed, carry full police officer powers, and are trained according to Division of Criminal Justice Services Standards. The Department, which is a DCJS Accredited Agency, consists of the Chief of Police, three Lieutenants, seven officers and a clerical staff position. The mission of the department embraces community policing philosophies within the framework of promoting and creating a safe and supportive environment for the campus community.
The Chief is responsible for the management of, and the overall day-to-day operation of, the campus police department, pro-actively providing vision, leadership and hands-on supervision for all staff, ensuring that high quality campus safety and security services are being offered. Using the community policing philosophy, the Chief will work with the Department and campus community to develop a team approach and a customer service focus in the delivery of all law enforcement and safety and security initiatives. The Chief is expected to be an effective communicator and will have overall responsibility for all emergency preparedness and emergency operational systems, procedures and policies for the campus. The Chief is expected to personally respond to emergencies at any hour of the day or night. The Chief, working closely with college administration, faculty, staff, and local law enforcement agencies that surround the campus, will work with and support students in an educational environment. The Chief is responsible for the enforcement of all federal, state, and local laws as well as rules and regulations of the College and the State University of New York and will work with and support the campus student conduct system.

Additional Comments • In addition to the aforementioned minimum qualifications, it is preferred the candidate also have:
• Master's Degree;
• Experience working in an Accredited Police Department;
• Leadership Training such as FBI National Academy, FBI LEEDS, SMIP etc.;
• Familiarity with state-run college systems.
