Section 70.4 Transfer: Candidates may be eligible for nomination for transfer under Section 70.4 of the Civil Service Law to Education Trainee 1 if they possess a bachelor’s degree AND are a current NYS employee with one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-9 or higher AND have standing on the Professional Career Opportunities (PCO) eligible list or Public Administration Trainee Transition (PATT) eligible list.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Office of Cultural Education is seeking candidates to fill an Education Program Assistant 1 position in the New York State Library’s (NYSL) Computer Applications Group, within the Technical Services and Systems (TSS) Unit. The TSS Unit acquires, catalogs and processes approximately 95,000 print and digital items annually, including books, journals and state and federal documents. The incumbent of this position will help support the NYSL's online presence and provide administrative support for both the Computer Applications Group and the TSS Unit. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Assist in maintenance of the NYSL's public information by keeping directories, program information and designated web pages up to date;
• Create or update documentation for the TSS Unit's processes and procedures;
• Collect statistics related to online resources for the TSS annual report and for federal reports;
• Review NYSL publications for compliance with accessibility requirements;
• Prepare material for the NYSL’s Digital Collections, including editing PDFs, providing descriptive metadata and reviewing records for quality control;
• Provide administrative support within the TSS Unit; and
• Collect and review information needed to issue or update proximity ID cards for Library staff.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of degree will be required for all candidates at the time of interview.
This position may be filled as a traineeship. The salary listed above applies to candidates appointed to Education Program Assistant 1, SG-14. The hiring rate for candidates appointed to Education Trainee 1 starts at $38,464 and, for current New York State employees, is based on the candidate’s salary at the time of hire. Candidates appointed at the trainee level will be required to successfully complete the traineeship in order to advance to the journey level title and salary.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $58,028 based on annual performance advances.
