Minimum Qualifications A graduate in environmental science/studies, natural history, science education, outdoor/environmental education, ecology or related field with a minimum of 3 years of nature center or nature education programming. Working knowledge of Northeastern flora and fauna, ability to work with youth of diverse backgrounds, and ability to handle, collect and care for small animals. Applicant must have knowledge of Project Wet, Project Wild and nature-based education and be able to co-train the nature museum education staff. Applicants must possess a strong work ethic, be flexible, able to mentor nature museum educators, and be highly organized. Applicants need to provide evidence that they have the ability to work in an area with limited communication and in an independent, productive and responsible manner.
Duties Description Under the supervision of the Nature Museums Coordinator, the Assistant Coordinator will assist in the oversite and management of seven (7) Nature Museum educators in Harriman State Park. Prior to the arrival of museum educators in late June, the incumbent will work to prepare grounds and buildings, schedule programming with camps, procure materials and prepare training for incoming nature museum educator staff. Once educators arrive, the incumbent will train museum education staff and supervise them in the setup of museums and exhibits, maintenance and interpretation of living and static exhibits, and conducting museum tours and nature programs with children. The Assistant Coordinator will ensure that all staff maintain safe and welcoming environments where children are valued and encouraged. The Assistant Coordinator will establish and cultivate a collaborative and respectful relationship with staff and the Coordinator. The Assistant Coordinator will perform grounds maintenance and light facility maintenance. The Assistant Coordinator will dress appropriately, report to work punctually and work diligently. Additional Comments Candidate must be physically able to perform medium physical labor and to work with staff in a collaborative environment. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age; have a valid driver's license and be available to work weekends and holidays. Transportation within the park is the responsibility of the applicant, and mileage is not reimbursable. There is no overtime pay.
