Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Assistant in Education Improvement Services.

Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Assistant in Education Improvement Services Civil Service eligible list. If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for Assistant in Education Improvement Services, you may receive a canvass letter. You must complete and return it as instructed on the letter.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for an Assistant in Education Improvement Services position in the Office of Student Support Services. This Office promotes student learning and wellness as well as school improvement by directing and managing programs and services designed to provide the supports necessary for children and youth to successfully fulfill their potential as students and citizens. The programs and services provided include guidance and resources to schools related to physical health, mental health, wellness, social and emotional development, school climate and safety, extended learning opportunities, pupil personnel services, academic interventions, the education of youth in foster care, as well as alternative education and education programs for youth involved with the justice system.

The incumbent of this position will focus primarily on providing support for the Supportive Schools Grant Program, including providing technical assistance to schools and districts in the areas of school safety and climate, in addition to related assignments to support other programs and services within the Office of Student Support Services.

Other duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Perform daily functions of administering the Supportive Schools Grant Program including grant administration, contract proposal review, award recommendations, review and approval of program budget proposals, amendment requests and final budget documents;
• Assist in developing guidance to schools on measuring school climate and safety and developing and implementing a comprehensive plan to improve school climate, and to promote safe and supportive school environments free from bullying, harassment, and discrimination;
• Monitor and evaluate school programs through site visits, report reviews, data analysis, and written and verbal correspondence;
• Collaborate with internal department staff and external stakeholders from schools, school districts, BOCES, universities, other state agencies and other organizations;
• Collaborate with staff from contracted Technical Assistance Center(s) related to supports for schools on measuring school climate and safety and developing and implementing a comprehensive plan to improve school climate and to promote safe and supportive school environments free from bullying, harassment, and discrimination;
• Provide policy and program guidance and technical assistance to school and district staff and other public or private agencies or individuals;
• Develop written materials including guidance documents, letters, reports, informational materials, correspondence, grant proposals and evaluations;
• Prepare and conduct workshops, focus groups, and training for school administrators and personnel;
• Review and analyze legislation and regulations for programmatic impact, develop procedures to meet requirements, and evaluate procedures to measure program effectiveness;
• Assist in the development of Requests For Proposals for making funds available to schools, districts, and community-based organizations and agencies, according to federal and State legislation, and process grant awards;
• Collect and analyze data related to school safety, school climate and related grant programs; and
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance and other benefits. Verification of degree and/or transcripts will be required at the time of interview for all candidates. This position requires regular, statewide travel 40 % of the time.

*Leads to a maximum salary of $88,124 based on annual performance advances.
