Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Information Technology Specialist 3 (Data Communications).

Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Information Technology Specialist 3 (Data Communications) Civil Service eligible list. If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for Information Technology Specialist 3 (Data Communications), you may receive a canvass letter. You must complete and return it as instructed on the letter.

Section 70.1 Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55 b/c service in any of the following titles: Chief Computer Operator, Information Technology Specialist 3, Information Technology Specialist 3 (Database) or Information Technology Specialist 3 (Systems Programming).

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Cultural Education (OCE) is seeking applicants for the position of Information Technology Specialist 3 (Data Communications) in the Office of the Deputy Commissioner. The OCE is comprised of the State Library, State Museum, State Archives, the Office of Educational Television & Public Broadcasting and the Summer School for the Arts. The incumbent of this position will support all program areas of OCE and will support the various Museum systems under the direction of an Information Technology Specialist 4. This position will also provide overall support and coordination for maintaining desktop computers, peripheral equipment and software applications in the OCE. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Execute procurements of hardware and software equipment and services;
• Manage hardware and software inventory;
• Oversee delivery of new equipment and collection of old equipment to be reassigned or recycled;
• Configure, install and support computer equipment following NYSED and OCE standards;
• Support desktop computers at remote research and collections storage facilities;
• In coordination with the NYSED-ITS Help Desk, provide support and troubleshooting assistance to staff using computers in the OCE;
• Support deployment and maintenance of networked environmental monitoring equipment;
• Setup, configure, troubleshoot and support VOIP phones;
• Ensure that systems and procedures are properly documented, meet NYSED standards and follow generally accepted IT practices;
• Work with other staff and contractors to support the appropriate deployment and operation of technology systems to support the programs of the OCE;
• Provide guidance, direction and supervision of IT subordinate staff and assist with professional development of technical and non-technical skillsets;
• Act as the project lead for technical projects, including managing schedules and budgets;
• Coordinate activities with other technology units and business partners through clear, accurate and timely communication;
• Develop SharePoint applications to support business needs; and
• Manage multiple projects concurrently and meet established guidelines.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointee’s negotiating unit.
