Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Assistant in Education Improvement Services.
Section 70.4 Transfer: Candidates may be eligible for nomination for Section 70.4 transfer to Assistant in Education Improvement Services if they have standing on the Civil Service eligible list for this title and are currently a New York State employee in a title allocated at Grade 20 or higher.
Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for this title.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for an Assistant in Education Improvement Services position in the Office of Accountability (OA). This Office oversees accountability of schools and Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) in New York State for student academic results and the use of Federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) funds. The OA works to close the achievement gap by identifying and supporting schools and LEAs that are low-performing, as well as those replicating the best practices of the State’s high performing and high progressing schools and districts. The Field Support team is responsible for providing support and technical assistance to schools and districts identified as low-performing. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Provide technical assistance and monitor required actions for identified schools and districts, including the requirements that schools promote parent involvement, incorporate evidence-based school improvement interventions, and conduct annual surveys;
• Participate in activities to implement the State’s needs assessment and improvement planning process and protocols;
• Coordinate and attend school and school district visits, as scheduled per the approved ESSA plan;
• Process notification letters and emails to schools and district leaders regarding onsite field support and the collection of necessary documentation prior to onsite visits;
• Complete tracking materials to communicate the pre/post status of each assigned school and school district visit;
• Engage in, prepare, and facilitate professional development activities related to the needs assessment and improvement planning processes;
• Collaborate to support planning, implementation and evaluation of professional development activities sponsored by Office of Accountability and Field Support Teams;
• Maintain electronic databases of field support related documents, including school-level and district-level improvement plans and needs assessments.
• Prepare written materials to assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to the various components of the Field Support Team;
• Participate in review of grant applications; and
• Complete special assignments as directed.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of degree will be required. Day travel estimated to be approximately 30% of the job duties
