Salary RangeFrom $102000 to $149900 Annually
Minimum Qualifications A minimum of ten years of experience in areas of New York State law pertaining to finances of local government entities in the State, including but not limited to municipal procurements, the issuance of bonds and notes, municipal budgeting, conflicts of interest, and compensation of public officers and employees.

Duties Description Reporting directly to the Deputy Counsel to the Comptroller, the Associate Counsel for the Local Government and School Accountability Unit is responsible for:
* Providing legal services to the Division of Local Government and School Accountability (LGSA).
* LGSA generally has oversight and audit authority over local governments, local public authorities, school districts, certain charter schools, and special districts outside of New York City.
* The Associate Counsel supervises a staff of six attorneys, one legal assistant and one secretary.
Additional Comments PREFERRED COMPETENCIES:
* Working knowledge of the provisions pertaining to municipal financial affairs contained in the New York State General Municipal, Town, Village, County, General City, Education, Public Authorities, Local Finance and Municipal Home Rule Laws, as well as articles 8 and 9 of the State Constitution
* Sound understanding of the operations of local governments in New York State and experience in dealing directly with local officials
* Experience in drafting advisory opinions and legislation, and in public speaking before groups of local officials and municipal attorneys
* Experience managing a small legal staff
* Excellent communication skills
* Ability to manage multiple priorities
* Flexibility and Adaptability
* Interpersonal Relationships
* Ability to work in a Team
