Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree plus five years specialized experience*, two of which must have been at a supervisory level.
*Experience in the administrative or creative side of a professional arts organization; OR
Specific expertise in at least one area, such as performing arts administration or performance itself in a performing art; participatory experience in the arts, such as would be satisfied by a former professional dancer, curator, play director, or actor; or participatory experience in arts management such as would be satisfied by a former managing director, general manager, administrative assistant or business manager of a non-profit arts organization.

Duties Description The NYSCA Arts Program Director provides leadership in their respective arts discipline and monitors the trends and issues that affect all arts disciplines that have been determined priorities by the agency. This Program Director will oversee the Regional Economic Development Councils (REDC), Capital Fund Portfolios and other intra-agency initiatives. The Regional Economic Development Councils were created by Governor Cuomo in 2011 to advance the administration’s efforts to improve New York’s business climate and expand economic growth with focuses in placemaking, workforce, tradeable sectors and innovation. Since 2012, NYSCA is one of 11 agencies partnering with the REDCs to provide arts funding for projects for New York State communities through the arts and culture.
Current REDC Initiative funding is offered in three areas: Workforce Investment (first offered in 2015), Workforce Readiness (first offered in 2017), and Arts and Cultural Impact Programming (first offered in 2017). For FY2018, NYSCA awarded $22Million in capital funds to 22 organizations across the state through the Arts and Cultural Impact Programming initiative. For FY2019, NYSCA awarded $10Million in Capital funds to 51 organizations through the NYSCA-REDC Large Capital Project and the NYSCA-only Mid-Size Capital fund.
Primary Responsibilities of the REDC Arts Program Director and Supervisor of Arts Program Associates duties include, but are not limited to:
• Serve as the agency director for REDC and Capital Funds.
• Serve as the agency director of cross-agency initiatives such as the Arts and Justice Initiative partnership with the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS).
• Oversee contract execution and management of current REDC initiative grants and the 73 Capital grants (FY18 and FY19).
• Oversee the grant application, eligibility, adjudication, and distribution process for the REDC Initiatives and Capital Funds (pending renewal).
• Develop grant program guidelines consistent with NYSCA and ESD criteria.
• Oversee the dissemination of program information at REDC workshops throughout the state.
• Develop and present grant program analysis and funding rationales, and make recommendations for Deputy Director for Programs, Council Committee and full Council review and approval.
• Effectively communicate Council grant decisions, funding rationales, and panel comments to applicants and grantees.
• Oversee associates and interns assigned to their portfolio.
• Work closely with potential applicants, applicants, and grantees to provide needed information, instruction and professional advice on the prequalification process, submission of applications, contracting, and grant management.
• Prepare reports, directories, and other informational resources.
• Perform work at the direction of agency management on special projects and assignments.
