Minimum Qualifications Must be licensed and currently registered to practice nursing in New York State OR possess a limited permit to practice in New York State (must obtain your NYS license within one year of the date of appointment or action will be taken to remove you from the position)
AND EITHER
1. Must possess a Bacherlor’s degree or higher in nursing, health care administration, public administration in a health care area, public health, community mental health, community mental health counseling, psychology, sociology, biology, social work or human services AND two years of professional clinical nursing experience, including at least one year experience in providing direct services to individuals diagnosed with mental illness, mental retardation, developmental disabilities, or alcohol or substance abuse in a COMMUNITY SETTING, e.g., a halfway house, visiting nurse, or a community clinic. SUBSTITUTION: A master's degree in community mental health may be substituted for this experience only OR
2. 30 college credits in nursing, health care administration, public administration in a health care area, public health, community mental health, community mental health counseling, psychology, sociology, biology, social work or human services. The 30 credits may include up to two statistics courses. Courses/degrees in physical education, recreation therapy, English, history, math, anthropology, languages, etc. are NOT acceptable. IN ADDITION TO an associate's degree in nursing or completion of a three-year nursing program AND three years of professional clinical nursing experience, including at least one year providing direct services to individuals diagnosed with mental illness, mental retardation, developmental disabilities, or alcohol or substance abuse in a COMMUNITY SETTING, e.g., a halfway house, visiting nurse, or a community clinic.
Duties Description • Supervise Nurse 2s & LPNs
• Monitor individuals’ care
• Consult with community hospitals and clinics regarding individuals’ needs
• Conduct monthly nursing meetings to discuss consumer concerns, problems, etc.
• Maintain communication with individuals’ family members or correspondents
• Advise nurses/staff on medical and nursing problems as needed
• Assist physicians and staff
• On-call for individuals’ medical and nursing needs
• Coordinate annual in-service of staff on individuals’ medical and nursing needs
• Schedule and coordinate nursing staff to conduct medication recertification classes
• Schedule follow-up clinics for individuals
• Participate in various committees such as Human Rights, Placement and Incident Review, as needed
• Serve as liaison to hospitals, nursing homes, psychiatric centers and rehabilitation centers
• Provide input on updating nursing policies and procedures, as needed
Additional Comments Please note that starting salary for this title reflects the Geographic Pay, Shift Differential Pay, and Downstate Adjustment.
$79,968 - $96,082 - Posted Hiring Salary includes the sum of the statutory hiring rate for PS&T Grade 19 ($59,671), Increased Hiring Salary ($3,651), Shift Differential ($4,400), Geographic Pay ($12,871), Downstate Adjustment ($3,026). Shift Differential, Geographic Pay and Downstate Adjustment added to the job rate ($75,785) for the PS&T Grade 19.
