Minimum Qualifications For employees of New York State on or before the date of examination, you must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had three months of permanent competitive for 55-b/55-c services as a Dentist 1 or 2. For all qualified individuals; on or before the date of examination, you must have had a valid license and registration to practice dentistry in New York State and you must have three years of full time post licensure dentistry experience, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity in a dental health care setting.
Duties Description Dentist 3 and Dentist 4 positions function as general dental practitioners and administer institution dental programs. As a general dental practitioner, incumbents perform the full range of professional dental tasks in connection with diagnosis and treatment of dental diseases and injuries of teeth and gums, as prescribed by agency policy and procedures. Incumbents also supervise professional and paraprofessional support staff by determining staff work assignments and priorities, review, monitor and evaluate staff and work products; approve leave, and track time and attendance; complete performance evaluations; and train staff. Incumbents advise subordinate dentists in acute dental conditions, coordinate dental services with other clinical specialties and order and maintain dental equipment and supplies.
