Possession of a license to practice medicine in New York State AND certification by a Member Board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) in your specialty

Current Medical Specialist 2

Eligible for 70.1 transfer by way of current permanent status in a title deemed comparable to Medical Specialist 2, by the Department of Civil Service.

Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The incumbent will serve as the Medical Director for Western New York Developmental Disabilities State Operations Office (DDSOO) as well as provide diagnostic and medical care and services. This position will report directly to the State Operations Deputy Director.

The incumbent will be responsible for the administration and delivery of all medical services provided by the DDSOO and supervision of medical staff. This position will require the incumbent to perform as the agency liaison between the DDSOO and community medical providers toward assuring access to appropriate medical evaluation and care. The Medical Director will oversee the implementation of the Health Care Decisions act to assure that End of Life, DNR/DNI requests for service recipients conform with the provisions of the law. The incumbent will ensure that medical services are monitored for compliance with oversight agencies including but not limited to OPWDD Division of Program Certification and NYS Department of Health.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Medical Director will be responsible for the administration of DDSOO medical /clinical treatment programs, including medical, medical ancillary and psychiatric services. The primary duties will include responsibility for providing direct clinical services and over all medical management to the individuals we serve. Additional duties will include working with medical staff, medical representation on treatment teams, participation in facility wide committees and compliance with all over sight entities. Assure that the DDSOO’s medical services maintain full compliance with OPWDD’s policy and regulations. The Medical Director will work effectively with individual treatment teams to support service recipients, possess strong verbal and written communication skills, serve as role model, accurately observe and document conditions relative to individual’s served conditions and possess the skills needed to supervise and support medical services delivered by WNY DDSOO facility staff and contracted consultants.
