Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.

Preferred Qualifications Include: experience with survey techniques for small mammals, small mammal identification, GPS, ArcGIS and pre-vaccination for rabies exposure.

Duties Description Wildlife Management – Implementation of the NYS Mammal Trapping Distribution Assessment. Responsibilities include assisting with survey and monitoring efforts such as small mammal trapping, handling, and marking, camera trap operation, habitat data collection and hair and tissue collection for DNA analysis.

The candidate may be asked to assist staff with the following tasks:
• Assist with obtaining landowner permission for private lands (e.g. phone calls, email or in person contact).
• Creating maps on ArcGIS for field surveys.
• Process, enter, and check data collected in the field.

The technician may also have the opportunity to assist with other wildlife projects on an as needed basis including goose banding, species surveys, land management activities, grouse trapping and monitoring efforts and wildlife health surveillance efforts.

Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Most of the work will be outdoors and requires navigating difficult terrain. The candidate must have the ability to adapt to unpredictable conditions such as poison ivy, biting insects, weather, etc. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 40 pounds.

This is a seasonal, hourly appointment, ending no later than 10/31/2019. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to 10/31/2019. Actual work schedule and duties may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
