Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trades-worker or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course.
Duties Description Applicant will be required to operate a dump truck and other heavy equipment. Will be required to operate a chainsaw, pole saw, lawn mowers, weed trimmer, and other equipment of similar types. Must have working knowledge of and the ability to use the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the trade or trades in which assigned. May not be assigned to the same job location each day, should expect to be assigned anywhere in the working circle during work days. Must be able to perform moderate to heavy labor. Applicant should have the ability to read plans, specifications, manuals and blueprints. Have the ability to understand and carry out written and oral directions. Have the ability to climb ladders and work at heights on scaffolds and platforms.
Additional Comments This position will be working out of Santanoni Preserve and William C. Whitney Headquarters. Candidate will be required to report to either location during the week.
Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas and in adverse weather conditions. Travel and overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Must have a valid Class B CDL within 6 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements. Will be subject to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991, which requires employee testing for drug and alcohol abuse. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 60 pounds.
This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with a duration of 4/1/19 to 3/31/20. Program needs will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to termination date indicated. Actual work schedule, duties, and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
