Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.

Duties Description • Answer phone calls and assist walk-in visitors (including ECOs and other DEC staff). This involves answering wildlife and regulation-related questions, and directing callers to the appropriate DEC staff or outside agencies/individuals in order to provide the best answers to their questions.
• Create GIS maps for deer damage applications. Issue approximately 100–200 beaver and 750 deer damage permits annually. Mail additional deer carcass tags to current permitees upon request.
• Special projects such as data entry, mailings, proofreading, basic GIS work, and data summaries.
• Issue Canada goose depredation permits.
• Process Wildlife Management Area camping reservations.
• Check/age hunter-harvested deer at the Avon office and issue bonus/DMP tags.
• Coordinate collection, packaging, and shipping of wildlife specimens for pathology.
• Represent DEC/Wildlife at sportsmen’s shows or other events (limited).
• Field work at the request of other staff if office coverage can be arranged

Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. This individual will have excellent customer service and telephone skills, as well as experience with Microsoft Office applications. Experience with GIS mapping.

This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with a duration of 5/1/19 through 3/31/20. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to dates listed. Actual work schedule, duties, and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
