Minimum Qualifications G18- Bachelor’s degree in one of the natural sciences or a related field and two years of professional research experience in the appropriate field; OR a master’s degree in one of the natural sciences or an appropriate field and one year of such experience; or a doctorate in an appropriate field.
G22 - Bachelor’s degree in one of the natural sciences or a related field and three years of professional research experience in an appropriate field OR a master’s degree in one of the natural sciences or an appropriate field and two years of such experience; or a doctorate in an appropriate field.
Preferred Qualifications:
Clinical parasitology and next generation sequencing experience. Familiarity with bioinformatics, assay validation and molecular diagnostics including DNA extraction, real-time PCR, targeted next generation sequencing as well as microscopy, cloning and tissue culture.
Duties Description The incumbent will perform clinical testing in the Wadsworth Center’s Parasitilogy Laboratory. Duties will include testing for surveillance, outbreak investigation, special disease, emerging pathogen detection, reference testing, development and investigation of new testing methodologies and the investigation of parasitic infections and their associated pathogenesis and disease. The incumbent will also organize samples and data, develop and prepare control materials, analyze data, and communicate with submitting laboratories and collaborators.
Additional Comments Permanent, non-competitive, fulltime. Since exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position, the selected candidate will be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment and may undergo pre-employment and/or periodic health evaluations and receive specific immunizations. In addition, dependent upon the initial assignment or subsequent reassignment of this position satisfactory background checks may also be required. Work hours may be variable. Some travel may be required.
