Minimum Qualifications Junior Landscape Architect: A bachelor’s or higher-level degree in landscape architecture. OR 2: a Landscape Architect’s License from any state or political subdivision of the United States.
Landscape Architect: One year of permanent service as a Junior Landscape Architect and passage of Section 2 of the Landscape Architect Registration Examination.

Duties Description Under the direction of the Associate Landscape Architect and the Capital Facilities Manager 2, the incumbent will perform a variety of duties in the landscape field including but not limited to: • Assist Landscape Architects, Engineers, Architects, and staff in planning and supervising the construction and maintenance of landscape architectural and related projects to achieve maximum usefulness, safety, and appearance consistent with economic, aesthetic, and environmental considerations. • Perform site assessments, prepare designs, select materials, estimate costs, and provide construction supervision for landscape architectural and related work on parks, highways, or buildings. • Prepare erosion and sediment control plans, storm water pollution prevention plans. • Develop pedestrian facility and wetland mitigation designs. • Coordinate work with the architectural, environmental and engineering aspects of projects with regard to the locations, design, construction, historic/cultural preservation and maintenance of these projects. • Preparing plans, specifications, and estimates for the landscape, roadway, wetland mitigation, grading, drainage, sidewalk, bike path, American with Disabilities Act compliance, storm water quality, and quantity management portions of park projects. • Organize, facilitating, and/or participating in public meetings, workshops, and hearings. • Preparing architectural renderings and presentation material for public meetings. • Gathering data and providing technical assistance, support and design on Americans with Disabilities Act policy and regulations. • Evaluating projects proposed by local governments, developers, and organizations for impact on adjacent State properties and the need for environmental analysis and approval. • Providing technical assistance and advice to project staff and management about erosion control, vegetation management, plant selection, topography, grading, drainage, accessibility requirements, and roadway and site selection and improvements. • Analyzing and researching landscape/environmental issues affecting the State parks, gathering data, writing reports, and making recommendations to management; • Reviewing and/or preparing/delivering landscape architecture/environmental documentation, permits, guidance, training, official issuances, Design Reports, correspondence, and other written documentation; • Utilize Autocad, HydroCADD, Arc-GIS, Outlook, Office, and other software packages to perform project work; • Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations. • Skill sets and software specifics include Sketch-up; Photoshop; Rhinoceros; Illustrator; hand drafting.

Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS: • Must possess and maintain a valid NYS drivers’ license as a term and condition of employment. The following experience, skills, and characteristics are highly desirable: • Working knowledge of applicable codes, laws, rules and standards. • Working knowledge of principles, practice and procedures of architecture and field work. • Working knowledge of building materials and construction methods. • experience preparing and reviewing construction documents and specifications. • Have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. • Effective communication skills. • Good organizational skills.
