Minimum Qualifications Certification from the Department of Health in the grade required for operation of the water treatment plant to which assigned. Appointees may be temporarily employed pending certification but must be removed if fail to achieve the certification.

Duties Description Full performance level; under the general direction of a senior filter plant operator or higher level facility operation staff; operate water filtration plants; may perform semi-skilled maintenance activities, depending on workload needs; and may be responsible for a water treatment plant, or supervise a shift. Monitor/adjust control panels, gauges, chlorinators, filters, other equipment. Add chemicals, adjust water treatment to meet quality standard, maintain chemical storage monitoring requirements. Communicate with escort regulator inspectors. Clean, repair, calibrate, maintain pumps, screen valves, meters and other equipment systems at a physical plant. Remove, clean, backwash/replace filters/screens and rake sand in filter beds. Calibrate/repair testing equipment. Order supplies and chemicals. Maintain parts/equipment. Produce/monitor testing. Submit reports about testing and maintenance. May instruct/supervise other staff in the operation/maintenance of plants equipment. Oversee/maintain sewer lift.
