Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Non-Competitive Appointment: Candidates must have two years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trades worker OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Performance Improvement Management Services is seeking candidates for a Maintenance Assistant position in the Office of Facilities and Business Services. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Patch, prep and paint walls, floors, and ceilings;
• Assist in snow removal and salting, and use different types of machinery such as snow blowers;
• Maintain a safe work environment by following verbal and written instructions and using proper tools to complete assignments;
• Perform routine tasks in electrical, carpentry, plumbing, painting and mechanical HVAC trades;
• Replace and install drop ceiling tiles, floor tiles and stair treads;
• Replace molding where necessary;
• Must be able to work from heights exceeding 10 feet and use of aerial lifts, scaffolding and ladders;
• Ability and willingness to be trained/certified in areas of confined space, abatement and technical job-related issues (Lead paint certs, ACM certs, VOC’s Industrial Hygiene, SDS ETC.); and
• Maintain a professional and courteous manner with staff, customers, co-workers, and supervisors.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent, non-competitive appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointee’s negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license is required.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $45,200 based on annual performance advances.
