Minimum Qualifications ARS/G14 - Bachelor's degree in Epidemiology, Public or Environmental Health, Statistics/Biostatistics, Social/Behavioral or Environmental Sciences, or a related field AND one year of relevant professional experience in an appropriate field. Thirty graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience.
RS1/G18 - Bachelor's degree in Epidemiology, Public or Environmental Health, Statistics/Biostatistics, Social/Behavioral or Environmental Sciences, or a related field AND two years of relevant professional experience in an appropriate field; or a Master’s degree in the above fields and one year of professional experience in an appropriate field.
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the above requirements, the ideal candidate at either level will have: a graduate degree in the fields listed above or closely related field. The preferred candidate will possess: experience in SAS and Excel; experience in environmental, occupational, and/or reproductive epidemiologic research; experience in public health surveillance; demonstrated proficiency in the collection, management, linkage, and analysis of environmental and human health data; experience with data quality improvement; excellent written and oral communication skills for diverse audiences; and strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of birth defects and medical coding; as well as experience working with databases and large datasets is desirable.
Duties Description This Scientist will join a strong scientific team in the Bureau of Environmental & Occupational Epidemiology. The incumbent will participate in all phases of epidemiological research and surveillance, including problem definition, study design, acquiring and managing relevant data, statistical/spatial/temporal analyses, summarizing findings, interpreting and sharing results, and preparing grant proposals, reports, and publications. Other responsibilities will include surveillance of congenital malformations; the collection, processing, and management of relevant data; and performing quality assurance and control checks using SAS and Excel. This scientist will also interact with hospital reporting staff, members of the public, and the scientific community.
Additional Comments Appointment level will be determined based on qualifications and skills of the selected candidate. Permanent, non-competitive, full-time. Occasional day trips and overnight travel will be required.
