Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of the vehicle and traffic law as it applies to the safe and legal operation of vehicles operated. Knowledge to the nature of cargo carried and any special handling required. Knowledge of simple automotive repair and maintenance procedures. Ability to physically operate assigned vehicles as required. Ability to lift and carry crates, cartons, boxes and other cargo onto and off of the transport vehicles.
Candidates must possess a New York State driver license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated. Candidates may be required to possess a CDL Class A, B, C, or a General Class D license.
Duties Description Drives a variety of motor vehicles both on and off state property in order to transport people, material and equipment as required and plow snow from road-ways and parking lots.
May map route, itineraries and point of call.
Moves or carries cargo onto, into, off of, or out of vehicle operated. Moves or caries cargo from the vehicle to the delivery or storage point. Posts manifests, inventories and other records of goods and people transported.
Tends to the routine maintenance of vehicles operated in order to insure that cargo is moved as required. Changes oil and spark plugs. Changes tires and washed vehicles. Pimps gas and adds water to radiator, oil to crankcase and air to the tires. Replaces lamp bulbs. May operate and maintain motored equipment in support of building trades crews.
Additional Comments The appointment types temporary pending proof of successful acquisition of the required class license, which must be acquired within one year of appointment. Upon successful acquisition of the required class license, the appointment type will become permanent and will initiate an official probation period. If you fail to acquire your required class license with in one year of appointment, action will be taken to remove you from the position.
You must maintain a valid license throughout employment.
