Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be either a qualified employees of New York State with one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Professional Engineer 1 (Civil/Transportation), or be in a title that is eligible for 70.1 transfer. OR,
Meet the minimum qualifications for a PROVISIONAL appointment:
Either 1. a New York State Professional Engineer's license and current NYS registration AND a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher as listed below;
Or 2. a New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience as listed below.
Qualifying degrees: Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Management, Construction Engineering Management Technology, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Hydraulics Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning and Engineering, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees.
Qualifying experience: One year of full-time engineering experience with transportation projects related to highways/roadways, railroads, bridges, airports, waterways, building structures, or traffic management and safety systems.
If appointed provisionally, selected candidate must take the Civil Service exam for this title and obtain a reachable score on the resulting eligible list in order to be appointed permanently.
Duties Description This position is under the direct supervision of the Division Construction Engineer. The Professional Engineer 1 (Civil/Transportation) in the Construction Group will provide oversight to multiple large-scale highway construction projects as well as smaller projects; participate in regularly scheduled progress meetings with contractor and quality control staff; continuously monitor the project’s progression, ensuring the construction activities are on schedule; provide oversight and direction to Thruway staff and consultants; maintain relationships between all relevant parties involved in a project while fostering an atmosphere that focuses on successful project completion.
Other responsibilities may include serving within the Incident Command System to support the Thruway Authority’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations. Selected candidate may be asked to serve in the Division Operations Center during activations.
