Minimum Qualifications *Provisional: A bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or in medical technology, and a New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist license or license eligibility, and four years of post- bachelor’s, professional-level laboratory experience in a blood bank, tissue bank, or clinical laboratory; OR a master’s degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or in medical technology may be substituted for two years of the required experience; OR a master’s or doctoral degree in a chemical, physical, biological science, or a New York State license to practice medicine (MD or DO) may be substituted for three years of the required experience. A New York State Laboratory Director Certificate of Qualification may substitute for the New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist license.
*Selected candidates will be required to take and pass an appropriate Civil Service examination after appointment and be immediately reachable from the resulting eligible list.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of tissue banking quality assurance, audits, and applicable laws and regulations. Ability to apply knowledge from tissue bank settings to regulatory enforcement and compliance activities. Two additional years’ relevant experience. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Duties Description Clinical Laboratory Consultants (CLC) inspect facilities performing tissue banking activities within New York State and outside the state. CLCs are responsible for conducting on-site evaluations of staff qualifications and procedures including the evaluation of facility standard operating procedure manuals and review of records; record keeping; documenting findings in descriptive narratives and evaluation reports; and determining the acceptance of a facility’s proposed remediation by reviewing the plan of correction; as well as general program administration. This position will be assigned to New York City and surrounding areas.
Additional Comments *Provisional, competitive, full-time appointment. IMPORTANT: This position requires extensive year-round field work and overnight travel within and outside New York State, including areas not served by public transportation and it could include international travel. At the time of appointment, and continuously thereafter, you may be required to have a valid passport or enhanced driver’s license, and a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State or otherwise demonstrate your ability to meet the transportation needs of the job.
