Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.

Duties Description Under the direction of a higher-level supervisor/manager, the candidate will perform engineering tasks related to the design and construction of highways, bridges, dams and other facilities.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Providing technical expertise to the Department’s Design, Construction and Maintenance programs.
• Conducting field inspections, evaluating project sites and construction progress.
• Conducting laboratory and field tests using instrumentation and/or data acquisition equipment, as well as evaluating and analyzing the resulting data.
• Performing geotechnical engineering and analysis for bridges, walls, embankments and landslides.
• Performing materials engineering and analysis for pavements, hot mix asphalt design, Portland cement concrete pavements, pipe, structural coatings, and various other materials used in highway and bridge construction.
• Preparing correspondence or reports and presenting recommendations to clients.
• Evaluating, implementing, and monitoring the performance of new materials and processes.
• Preparing specifications for construction procedures and/or materials requirements.
• Traveling statewide with overnight stays to perform the above duties.
• Performing other duties, as required.

Responsibilities also may include participating within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
