Minimum Qualifications We are seeking a seasoned attorney with at least five (5) years of solid trial experience to defend the state in these tort
actions, from commencement through trial, with post-trial briefs often required. Civil or criminal trial experience is
required; personal injury or ADA trial experience is preferred. The ability to manage a large caseload is
essential. Superior legal research, writing, analysis, negotiation, oral advocacy and organizational skills are also
required.
Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York State and be admitted to practice law in
New York State. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that attorneys in the Office be citizens of the United States.
A two (2) year commitment upon being hired is a condition of employment.
Duties Description The Claims Bureau of the New York State Office of the Attorney General (OAG) in New York City is seeking an
experienced trial attorney for the Torts Section. The Claims Bureau is a trial bureau that represents the State of New
York and its agencies in the Court of Claims and its employees in New York State Supreme Court in a wide variety of
litigation, including unjust conviction, highway design, false arrest and imprisonment, labor law, contract, premises
liability and fleet claims involving State vehicles.
