Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trades worker or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course.
Duties Description Under supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Assistant keeps a running inventory of all parks equipment and tracks and tracks tools and work orders, and maintains a working knowledge of the tools and supplies needed by maintenance and trades staff. In addition, the Maintenance Assistant is responsible for executing minor repairs and troubleshooting building system problems in the areas of masonry, and carpentry. Tasks may include replacement of light bulbs, ballasts, light switches, repair of plumbing fixtures including flushometers, automatic faucets and minor pipe leaks. The Maintenance Assistant will also work with Trades Generalists on any major repairs to be performed in the Maintenance Building.
The Maintenance Assistant provides support to the trades and maintenance staff in the following ways: maintains inventory and records for tools, materials and supplies made available through the Tool Room; consults with staff to determine the correct tools and supplies needed to accomplish a task; performs physical inventory of same to confirm accuracy of records; orders supplies as needed; generates, receives and completes required reports and forms for orders of supplies and materials distributed through Roberto Clemente State Park; organizes and maintains supplies to facilitate ease of location and issue; may be required to inventory equipment and affix property tags in advance of distribution; physically issues materials, supplies and equipment; maintains office and storage areas; may provide delivery services for certain items when needed; may supervise others during special projects such as physical inventory, cleaning or organization of large deliveries; perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Comments Operating Needs:
• Must be physically capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. and loading, unloading and moving items of varying weights and sizes.
• Daytime, weekend, holiday and evening work is required.
• Candidates must possess and maintain a valid NYS driver’s license as a term and condition
• of employment.
• Candidate is expected to have proficiency in Excel, Word and Microsoft Outlook.
