Minimum Qualifications Departmental Operating Needs:
Successful candidates in the position must be able to effectively communicate with co-workers, supervisors and the campus community. This position may require you to work in a team so the candidate should have strong interpersonal and teamwork skills. The candidate must possess and have proven positive customer service skills; must also possess good listening skills and be able to understand and follow written and or oral instructions. Since the activities of other employees depend upon the availability of the employee in this position, reliable attendance is a factor that will be considered when filling this vacancy. This position requires traveling within and between campuses. A valid license to operate a motor vehicle in NYS is preferred, or candidate should otherwise demonstrate his her capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position.

Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of full-time experience in plumbing, steam-fitting, electrical, air-conditioning, or refrigeration work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of a two-year technical school course in heating, refrigeration, or air?conditioning at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.

Preferred Qualifications:
Certifications earned, completed relevant training, or other documentation that illustrates depth in this trade. Possession of
Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification is desirable. Experience with Building Management systems is desirable. Appointees will be required to have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in NYS or otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.

Duties Description Position Summary:
The Facilities department at the University at Buffalo invites applicants for our Service & Repair Assistant (HVAC-R) position. The incumbent must possess basic knowledge of mechanical equipment used in building HVAC and refrigeration systems and demonstrate proficiency in the safe use of hand and power tools.

Key responsibilities include:
• Assist with the installation, repair and constructions tasks in the mechanical, building, motor equipment, HVAC, refrigeration and electrical trades.
• Assist journeylevel trades to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair control systems for all types of coolers, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioning units and systems, humidifiers, compressors, ventilators, cooling towers and other similar and related equipment; and in the completion of complex projects and installations.
• Function as a lead worker over Maintenance Helpers or Laborers.

Candidates must be able to explain and demonstrate their skills and competency for this position; must communicate well with other employees and customers; must possess and have demonstrated positive customer service skills; must be able to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Since the activities of other employees depend upon the availability of the employee in this position, reliable attendance is a factor that will be considered when filling this vacancy. The incumbent of this position must be willing and able to respond to after hour calls resulting from equipment and system failures that may arise at any time of day or any day of the week. The incumbent may be required to work during adverse weather conditions to ensure continuous operation of all BMS and HVAC systems.
